International machine builders exhibiting at the 14th International Exhibition on Textile Industry or better known as ShanghaiTex 2009, commented that some visitors were more inclined to consider placing orders at the dynamic and commercial show in Shanghai from June 12-15.
Business was observed picking up in some sectors (e.g. knitting) since the second quarter of this year, according to Eric Schöller, Executive Vice President of Groz-Beckert KG, a system and solutions provider for textile machine builders and textile producers in the fields of knitting, weaving, felting and sewing. He said: "Feedback from visitors of this year's Shanghaitex will be one of the most important indicators of investment sentiments (of visitors) for next months."
Mr Schöller observed that the flat-knitting segment, for instance, has been developing positively in these months. Incoming orders and/or inquiries were received in some segments of spinning; the next is expected to be weaving in near future, he added.
VIP visitor delegations organized
Occupying an exhibition area of 100,000 square meters, ShanghaiTex 2009 attracted 1,000 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions, including those from Austria, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK and the USA. Machinery builders from Korea, Taiwan and Germany also participated in their pavilions respectively at the fairground.
The exhibition was supported by various Chinese textile associations and institutions, such as Shenzhen, Foshan Zhangcha, Shantou, Shantou Liangying and Guangdong Lishui. Overseas representatives from the Indian Textile Confederation, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), the Indonesia Textile Association and more also organized visiting delegation to the exhibition.
On the first day of the exhibition, special tours for important guests were organized for Chinese industry association officials, major international and Chinese visitors and exhibitors. Chinese industry association officials including Gao Yong, President of China Textiles Machinery Association (CTMA); Yang Jizhao, Secretary-General of CTMA; and Xi Shiping, Board Chairman and President of Shangtex Holding and Chairman of Shanghai Textile Association; Zhu Yong, Vice President of Shangtex Holding; Du Shuangxin, Director of Shanghai Textile Technology Service and Exhibition Centre; and Yu Chen, Deputy Secretary General, Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade were introduced latest developments of the textile machinery industry, in accompany with Stanley Chu, Chairman of the Adsale Group.
2009 China Textile Industry Summit held successfully
Export businesses of the Chinese textile industry has been hit by the global recession; however, business expert Long Yongtu said at a recent conference that the Chinese textile export will take a recovery route in the near future.
At the 2009 China Textile Industry Summit held on June 11 in Shanghai, one day prior to the grand opening of the ShanghaiTex 2009, Long Yongtu, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), analyzed the international market situation, the impact of financial crisis on Chinese economy and the way out.
Mr Long shared his views that the impact of financial crisis on the Chinese textile industry is easing and the export of textile products will recover. He said: "First, the second wave of the financial tsunami is not likely to happen. Second, prices for primary goods such as crude oil and natural gas are not likely to fluctuate, and third, the pernicious protectionism is not likely to appear in the world. The trend of the global economic integration intensifies the dependency among countries, and this is the key factor to stabilize the economy."
When talking about the impact of financial crisis on China's economy, he said that although the growth of China's GDP has slowed down, its national economy is yet expanding. "We should be confident to China's economy, which remains on the growing track for a mid- to long term development."
