5-minute interview: DiloGroup - new trends of nonwoven applications in car industry

At an interview with Adsale Industrial Portal, Textile2456.com, Johann Philipp Dilo, CEO of DiloGroup, introduced the exhibits of DiloGroup at the ShanghaiTex 2009 and shared his views on emerging trends in the nonwovens segment, especially the use of natural fibres in automotive textiles for the car industry, which has been hard hit by the global financial crisis.

2456: What were the new and/or major exhibits of DiloGroup at the ShanghaiTex 2009?

Dilo: We showcased our latest developments in regard to fibre preparation, opening and blending, card feeding, carding and airlay machines, the range of high-speed crosslappers and needlelooms. We took the opportunity to exhibit textile samples and inform our customers about high-technology, high-speed equipment and standard universal solutions of the Alpha series that offers a very economic ratio of production yield to cost.

We focused on the latest dosing opener DON including fine opening capability from Temafa, the high throughput and blending quality of the Baltromix system and introduced into high-speed carding at large working widths of up to 5.1 m including the technology to randomize the fibre orientation in the web as well as about Alphacard and the newly developed Multicard system.

In regard to crosslapping, emphasis was laid on the Dilolayer DL model series for speeds up to 160 m/min including the new Webguide and the economic alternative by the DLA series for speeds up to about 110 m/min.

Our range of high-speed needlelooms includes stroke frequencies of up to 3,000/m, Hyperpunch and Cyclopunch kinematics for highest throughput speeds of up to 150 m/min. and the Hyperneedling concept for extremely low weights down to around 30-40 g/m² with applications in the medical nonwovens field.

The DI-LOOM A needle loom series is an economic alternative when standard universal applications are the priority and less investment costs a prerequisite.

In this current economic environment, utmost emphasis has to be laid on fibre savings, which is the largest cost factor in the textile industry. Therefore, our revised Profiline CV1-A system offers a great opportunity for more weight regularity in the nonwovens product with associated reductions in fibre consumption and fibre costs. This new CV1-A system offers the best and most cost-efficient solution for fibre savings.

2456: For the new/major products, what are your expectations in the market?

Dilo: With our new developments in the carding and needleloom fields, which we have for the general standard applications as well as for high speed requirements, we expect to see worldwide success. In addition, particularly our high-speed and high-precision crosslapping machines will continue to be very successful. The new Multicard with Multifeed and Alphafeed combinations will too have a very good resonance in the gloibal markets.

2456: How do you see the Asian market for 2009/10?

Dilo: The Asian market with China foremost shows already signs of recovery. We therefore expect continued success in the Asian market for the second half of 2009 through 2010.

2456: What are the emerging trends in the segment your company is engaging in?

Dilo: With the economic difficulties in the car industry, we expect more applications of needled nonwovens in the car interior as decoration or as technical felts, also based on natural fibre.

The processing of natural fibre is covered by the range of our machines from Temafa for decortication, opening, blending and cleaning. Special carding and needling equipment for recycled and natural fibre with highly efficient dedusting capacity is addressing such nonwoven productions. Needled material in the car helps reduce weight and fuel consumption. It is not only economical but also considered to be an ecologic solution for better environmental protection.

Another trend is to reduce fibre mass in the fleece, as described above through the function of the Profiline CV1-A system. Highly precise batts and needled felts with low weight variations are the choice to stay competitive.

It is not only the throughput rate in kg/h of a complete line from Dilo, but also the highly regular webs and fleeces from our web-forming equipment with adjustable MD:CD ratios that makes the difference. This is particularly true for the sector of technical felts including geotextiles, filter fabrics, automotive material, synthetic leather as well as medical nonwovens and wipes.
