Adsale: what is the global production capacity of nonwoven fabrics per year at present? Where is it mainly distributed?
Mr Jallat: The world output of the global nonwoven fabrics was about six million metric tons in 2009, in which spunlaced nonwoven fabrics shared 12%. The annual growth of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics was about 8%.
Different with the case of woven fabrics, which are mostly manufactured in Asia, nonwoven fabrics are manufactured around the world across North America, Europe and Asia. The more balanced distribution of nonwovens production is mainly due to the consideration of logistical cost.
Adsale:How do you see the current and future market of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics in China?
Mr Jallat: The market of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics is growing rapidly in China. The output of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics in 2008 increased approximately 20% from the previous year and half of which was used for the purpose of cleaning.
There is a large growth potential for the Chinese market of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics as people in the country has enjoyed a higher living standard. The use of disposable cleaning fabrics is getting more popular. This trend is expected to continue as China’s economy keeps growing and the relatively high-income population is increasing.
Adsale:Which product areas have greater growth potential in China?
Mr Jallat:Currently, there are not many product categories in the Chinese market of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics. The production capacity may not be sufficient as well.
Take the cosmetics market as an example. There are not many spunlaced machines producing specifically for cosmetic cotton pads in China, as compared with Europe and the United States. For this reason, Andritz Perfojet SAS launched the JetLace Cottonpad last year to cater for this underdeveloped segment in China.
