After forming a 50:50 joint venture with Reliance Brands, Italian sportswear brand Paul & Shark is looking to enter the Indian menswear market, though not without challenges.
"Finding the right location and ambience to retail our brand remains a constant challenge. Lack of proper retailing channel across India can mar the growth of the brand," said Darshan Mehta, President and Chief Executive Officer, Reliance Brands.
Paul & Sharks, which set up its 1,100 square feet store in New Delhi's luxury mall DLF Emporio, expected to set up 15 stores in the next couple of years. "We hope to add two more stores in Hyderabad and Mumbai shortly," he said. The joint venture will invest US$1.5 million to get visibility in India.
Paul & Sharks has currently over 200 points of sale in cities around the world including Milan, New York, Dubai, Paris, Moscow, Shanghai and Seoul, retailing apparel for men, women and children. In India, only menswear will be introduced, such as shirts, polos, knits, outerwear, pants and so on.
Womenswear is expected to be available in the Indian market gradually, which are designed and crafted in Italy, according to Reliance Brands.
