Nike Inc reported a 12% rise in quarterly profit in mid-June, primarily boosted by international growth.
The weak US dollar helped Nike, which is outfitting athletes at the upcoming Summer Olympics in Beijing, in international markets, although commodity costs rose.
Looking ahead, global orders for delivery of shoes and apparel from mid-June through November rose 11% (+10% in Europe and +31% in Asia). However, the advance orders for its goods in the US market through November were flat.
The company's net income rose to US$490.5 million in the quarter ended May 31, 2008, from US $437.9 million a year ago, and revenue rose 16% to US$5.1 billion.
