Oerlikon Textile displayed a number of products at its 400-square-meter booth. They included the technology for FDY yarn production from Oerlikon Barmag. In the DTY sector, it highlighted the eFK texturing machine, which can be used with the company's energy-saving godet technology from the MPS and COCOON and the ergonomic handling of the FK6-1000.
Other exhibits included the full range of machinery for spinning mills from Oerlikon Schlafhorst; a comprehensive portfolio with turnkey solutions for airlaid and spunbond webs productions from Oerlikon Neumag; and the embroidery and twisting systems from Oerlikon Saurer.
Andreas Engelhardt, senior manager of international business, said that spending on clothing and accessories went down dramatically. Yearly growth in demand for apparel dropped to –7% last year from about 5% recorded in recent years. A small market segment that offers good margin is the polyester carpet yarns market in the U.S., which has been the only growth segment last year, he said.
According to Wang Jun, country president, China, the Chinese textile industry will only grow further due to the continuation of urbanization: about 300 million people will be urbanized by 2020. "The present difficulty we faced is just like a young boy catching a cold," he said.
Oerlikon has six production bases in China, among which three are textile-related. Its biggest plant in Suzhou has about 2,500 workers. Ye Yongmao, vice president of China Chemical Fibers Association, remarked that as the Chinese industry aimed to lower the cost and raise the quality of its products, Oerlikon is a good partner of the industry in the development process.
