Russia starts using oil as raw material by turning it into synthetic fibre for its textile industry. The first contract was signed at the Fourth Textile Industry Forum in Ivanovo, local media reports said.
The Russian textile industry imports most of its cotton and makes little synthetic fibre of its own. However, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation started to see the economic potentials of oil for them.
The country has signed a contract with Republic of Tatarstan to have preliminary treatment there, then it will be sent to factories in Ivanovo, a Russian city famous for textile production, where polyester and other synthetic fibers are made. Production is set to start in 2010.
