After going through hard year in 2009, Indonesia expects to have 13% growth on textile and apparel export in 2010, according to the Indonesian Textile Association (API).
Chairman of Indonesian Textile Association (API), Benny Soetrisno, in Annual Press Conference at the end of December 2009 in Jakarta.
"2009 is a rainy day for Indonesian textile industry. Unfinished economics recovery in developed countries had been plunged demand of textile and clothing globally. As a result Indonesian export of T&C products has been decreased by this year. Up to October 2009, the textile and apparel exports from Indonesia can only reach US$7.8 billion or decreased by 11.26% comparing to the same period of 2008. The API projected the figure will be around US$9.4 billion for the full year of 2009, or less 6.37% short of the target at US$10.04 billion," said Benny Soetrisno, API's Chairman at the annual press conference in Jakarta in December 2009.
Mr Soetrisno expected the situation in 2010 will improve, considering the economical recovery of developed countries will be more visible by mid-2010.
Assuming the global demand will resume to normal, API expects the Indonesian textile and apparel exports will reach US$10.66 billion in 2010. However, this estimation is subject to the empirical global economy.
