The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) developed a new E-clustered Prototype Assessment System, EPAS, to save time and costs for textile and apparel manufacturers. "Imagine how much time we can save if the overseas clients can join fitting sessions and take decisions immediately without sending the samples back and forth. Imagine how much efficiency we can achieve if an ad hoc problem comes up during production in a remote factory and we can address the problem immediately without traveling," says Dr Roger Ng, Assistant Professor of The Hong Kong Polytechnic university and the project coordinator. This HKRITA project offers the textile and apparel industry a state-of-the-art solution that allows different users from different physical locations to take part in a remote examination meeting of a physical sample. The fifth-generation EPAS is a handy device, equipped with lights on both sides and a main video camera in the center to capture either front or top view. Further, the system consists of a main control unit installed in the fitting room for broadcasting. It supports a remote viewing function of high definition video streaming to anywhere in the world that is connected by Internet with reasonable bandwidth. One or two additional video cameras connected to the system can further provide multiple views of samples. If a high quality photo image is required, an optional digital camera can be installed in the setting, according to HKRITA.
