A review on South Asia textile production region 南亚继续活跃於全球纺织贸易 by Ajay Sinha When it comes to regional trade, South Asia has shown great resilience during the global economic crisis. Both India and Bangladesh have witnessed surge in their GDP as well as foreign trade in recent years. India occupies a predominant position in terms of the regional trade as well as the exports to EU, the US, South African and Latin American countries. The robust growth of the Indian and Chinese economies has sent across economic indicators to all major international players that in coming decades the global growth will largely be directed from the trends set in by both India and China. Indian story is well received by all major international players. In fact, India's Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has repeatedly asserted that India's 8.9% GDP record in 2010 will improve to 9% in 2011. However, a word of caution has come from Stephen Roach, Non-executive Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia, who said that inflation is the bigger threat,“I think there is no mistaking the inflationary pressures in India and China. It is incumbent on the central banks in both countries to move aggressively to deal with it.” Since textile sector has been a prime mover for the South Asian economies such as India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, their textile sector growth has played an important role in overall growth of the economies. Although in recent years the economic crisis in the US and EU did have an adverse impact on the overall trade of many economies, yet, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka continued to see their textile and garment sector achieving new heights. India foresees a stable outlook In a recent report published by Fitch Ratings, it has reflected that the outlook for Indian textile companies is stable for 2011, on the back of robust domestic demand, sluggish-yet-steadily-growing export demand and an overall improvement in their credit profiles. However, Fitch's outlook for Indian garment exporters is negative to stable, as they continue to face challenges of rupee appreciation against the USD. The agency expects volume gains to be partly offset due to lower rupee revenues, leading to low-to-moderate single-digit export revenue growth for garment exporters in 2011. The agency expects the domestic apparel market to remain strong, boosted by a higher purchasing power and a greater penetration of the organized retail and favorable demographics. Fitch expects cotton and cotton yarn prices to remain firm in the current cotton season (October 2010 to September 2011). Also, there is an uptrend in synthetic fiber and yarn prices, which is bolstered by the demand-supply gap. Profitability pressures will likely filter down the value chain to cotton textile companies, depending on their positioning in the value chain, level of integration, timing of cotton buying and diversification into synthetic and other natural fibers. Spinners' margins are expected to remain protected to a greater extent as robust demand for yarn has enabled them to pass on price hikes; fabric makers and garmenters are less able to do so. Capex activity will be stronger in 2011 than the last two years' , driven by continued government support under the technology upgradation fund scheme and growing demand, which will motivate capacity expansion. The Indian Textile sector is growing at an estimated rate of 8% per annum and it is expected to reach US$110 billion by the year 2015 with an export content of US$45 billion. Bangladesh's soaring exports in readymade garments Globally acclaimed, ADB (Asian Development Bank) forecasts growth in Bangladesh readymade garment exports (woven by 38.0% and knitwear by 43.9%), representing over three-fourths of total exports, this forecast was partly ITMA 2011 Show Guide
Market Updates - South Asia 市场资讯 - 南亞 due to importing countries replenishing their inventories, though it also reflected a sharp rise in wages in some other garment-exporting countries. Although industry's agreement to raise monthly wages has finally been pushed though following frequent worker unrest over the past couple of years, it hardly dented wage differentials with competitors. Predicting the future trends ADB has reflected that, exports to the European Union will benefit from relaxed rules of origin (introduced 1 January 2011) under the Generalized System of Preferences. Bangladesh readymade garments are also diversifying their export destinations to countries such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, and Turkey. Forecast further reveals that the growth in overall imports is set to moderate over the rest of the fiscal year as imports of raw materials for the readymade garment industries slow. Industry experts are of the opinion that a strong export rebound will push up growth in fiscal year 2011, but a slowing remittance expansion will damp domestic demand. Next year could see better prospects with higher external demand. A major challenge for policy makers will be to balance the needs for taming inflation and for ensuring that credit to the private sector is not stifled. To harness the country's medium-term growth potential, removing infrastructure gaps will be essential, as will enhancing the supply of skilled human. As for Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau figures, Bangladesh's exports surged nearly 41% in March from a year earlier to a record US$2.14 billion as apparel sales rose sharply, led by a continuing shift in production from China to the lower-cost South Asian country. Exports for July to March, the first nine months of the 2010/11 fiscal year rose by an above-target 40.3% to more than US$16 billion. Exports of ready-made garments to Europe and the US, which accounts for up to 70% of total overseas sales, have been growing since last year with the global economic recovery. Garments exports surged 41% to US$12.57 billion in July-March. Officials said the record high figure in March reflected the lower wages that have attracted some producers away from China. Orders are also growing from new markets such as Japan, South Africa, Canada, China, India, Australia and New Zealand. Bangladesh's cheap labor costs have helped it join the global supply chain for low-end textiles and clothing. Tough period for Pakistan For Pakistan, industry experts feel that it may face a tough time owing to a different scenario on domestic and overseas, they believe that the recent calamity in Japan and popular uprisings in the Middle-East and North Africa are expected to reduce Pakistan's apparel products exports by 20% this fiscal year. The other issues which could also aggravate the garments production during the current season included unscheduled electricity load shedding in the industrial zones and deteriorating law and order in Karachi. Caption: Textile and garment industry plays a very important role for Pakistan (Image: Kaosha Textile) “Exporters anticipate some 20% decline in export of apparel products in the wake of fast changing political situation in the Middle East and in North Africa,”said Zonal Chairman of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea), Javed Chinoy. The frequent strike calls by political and religious parties and poor law and order situation in the metropolis were also hindering production process on a regular basis, which was making it difficult for exporters to meet the shipment deadlines, he said. He said the unscheduled power suspension in the industrial zones was also affecting the production process at least by 12% a day due to which the exporters were unable to receive more export orders. “The prices of cotton globally had reduced to US$176 per pound today and locally they were also going down with increasing import of the commodity from India and Uzbekistan,”Chinoy said, adding both factors would drag the export of readymade garments down in near future as global buyers were trying to delay the ready import shipments from Pakistan, waiting for further decline in garments prices. The zonal Prgmea chief said:“Sales of garments in Europe and the US could not fully take off because of economic disturbances in these countries, which affect Pakistan's export.”However, the future outlook for Pakistan's Textiles and clothing industry holds potential for the increased exports. The government plans to increase textile and clothing exports to US$5 billion from current US$17.8 billion by the year 2014, he added. ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南

A review on South Asia textile production region Caption: India is growing steadily in ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南

Experience and technological know-how With 60 years of experience in the textile industry, it also has a very robust infrastructure system which provides a solid supporting foundation for the textile industry. Korea's renowned automobile, electronic and IT industries have helped boost the country's textile and apparel industry, according to an industry insider, and the future textile industry will rely on the development of functional textiles Caption: Japan values the art of fashion 图:日本重视时装的艺术 (Image: Shima Seiki) ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南
Market Updates - Japan & Korea 市场资讯 - 日本和韓國 which is closely connected with its high technology development. The source added that Korea has to enhance its productivity and product quality and Japan and Italy are viewed by Korea as the quality benchmark and Taiwan and Japan as its nearest competitors for their excellent product quality. Japan Textile and fashion industry Textile and fashion industry plays a pivotal part in Japan.“Textile industry is a significant part of our lives as a foundation of our nation. It contributes to steadiness of our country as the labor-intensive industry plays the important role in local employment,”said Kenichi Nakajima, Chairman of Japan Knitting Industry Association. In fashion and textile, Japan could be said to be unique.“Japan's advantage lies in our expression ability in fashion based on our delicate sensibility. Our textile technology has also been developed remarkably. For example, Japanese twist yarn technique has won international recognition. The textiles made with Japanese techniques are used for international haute-couture brands,”he said. Rebuild its culture of fashion Japanese are creative designers with very unique sense of taste. However, Mr Nakajima is worried about their losing value in fashion. “Because of the deflation economy, we see a decline in fashion's sense of value, which we have always valued. We need to retain our cultural tradition and reconstruct the value of fashion,”he said, adding“the popularity of“fast fashion”has led to the losing value of fashion culture”. He suggested that Japan is in need of cultural programs and events to promote what he called“fashion renaissance”.“We participate in any fashion activities to maintain consumer's yearn for fashion,”he stressed. Uneven economic recovery Japan seems to have an uneven economic recovery. Mr Nakajima noted that in the past two years, there saw a dropping number of textile companies because of Japan's shrinking domestic market due to the economic recession. According to China Textile Economic Information (CTEI) of China National Textile and Apparel Council, the country annualized economic growth in the January-March period was revised higher to 5% from an initial estimate of 4.9%, official data showed June 10. Japan's Consumer Confidence Survey index also posted its fifth consecutive monthly rise to 42.8 in May from 42.0 in April. Japan May Nomura/ JMMA Manufacturing Purchasing Manager Index also rose to 54.7. Japan pulled out of recession in April-June 2009, helped by exports to Asia and consumption stimulated by the government's measures. According to CTEI, analysts expect that growth is likely to slow later 2010 as gains in consumption could moderate due to a lackluster jobs market and debt crisis. The Japanese government's total debt as of March was 882.9 trillion yen (about US$9.7 trillion), or 229% of GDP vastly larger than Greece's in terms of its absolute size and ratio to GDP and is expected to rise to 235% by the end of 2010. Thailand embraces“Chinese investments tsunami”to become sourcing hub in ASEAN 泰国借助“中国投资海啸”成为东盟采购中心 by Staff Reporters Thailand is among the fastest-growing countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its growing influence to ASEAN is notably seen. According to statistics of Thai Industry Ministry, in 2010, Thailand's total textile and clothing exports recorded US$4,914.7 million from January to August compared with US$4,197 million in the same period in 2009, representing an increase of 17.1%. Overall, the country's textile and garment industry still enjoyed stable growth in 2010 with an annual growth of over 20% at about US$7 billion. China to build a commercial complex in Thailand According to Economic Times, China plans to build a US$1.5 billion commercial complex in Thailand that will enable traders to send Chinese goods around the world without paying pricey tariffs. The complex is expected to house more than 70,000 Chinese traders in the 5.4 million - square - foot facility to be built on the eastern outskirts of Bangkok. The news has created quite a stir throughout the Thai textile and garment industry, said Sukij Kongpiyacharn, President of Thai Garment Manufacturers Association (TGMA) during the recent Hong Kong Fashion Week in Hong Kong. “It's totally a surprise to many Thai retailers and wholesalers that a Chinese products wholesale complex will be set up in Thailand. The retailers and wholesalers in Thailand described what happened was like tsunami of Chinese investments in Thailand. But I said‘no, it's only a turbulence’,” Caption: Sukij Kongpiyacharn, TGMA president Mr Kongpiyacharn said that Thailand was looking forward to being a wholesale distribution centre, adding that Thailand would become a wholesale location for ASEAN, because the complex will not only market Chinese products but also Thai products.“This development also proved Thailand's logistic edge as a sourcing hub,”he said. Thailand's competitiveness in ASEAN Creativity and flexibility, according to Mr Kongpiyacharn, remain Thailand's competitive edge, because the country has all sizes of manufacturers, from small-scale to large-scale and it is a matter of matching the right companies. At present, ASEAN countries are enjoying the price competitiveness when compared with China, where prices are rising at a faster pace. Because of that, more and more products from ASEAN countries are starting to export to China. “Thai brands and products have been very well-received among ASEAN countries while Thai fashion and products are presented in the Thai movies that are seen in many ASEAN countries, which represents Thailand's increasingly important role in ASEAN.” He went on to stress that Thailand would like to forge a closer cooperation with other ASEAN members.“The GDP is growing in the ASEAN area. With 600 million people, the market potential is vast. In future, Europe and the US would become second-tier markets, while trading among ASEAN countries would become first target.” Going sustainable through product development Thai textile has a long history. According to the Thailand Textile Institute, the development of Thai textile industry dated to 1936 by the Ministry of Defense. Private section began running the industry some 10 years later. Nowadays, Thai textile quality has been accepted internationally and a wide variety of Thai textiles have been created. While the privilege of price competitiveness may not last, Thailand views product development as the key to its sustainable growth. In light of the importance of product development, Mr Kongpiyacharn said that TGMA has been seeking resources from the government to set up a workshop for the Thai textile and garment industry to do research and development for new products. “For sustainable growth, the manufacturers also need more information about trends, and consumers' preference and needs in different countries,”he explained. Although some might still be doubtful about the political instability of Thailand, Mr Kongpiyacharn is optimistic about the prospect of the Thai textile industry.“Political conflicts in Thailand are mainly among few people in the countries. The textile industry was operating as usual during the previous protests. As long as you don't wear red or yellow shirts, and stay out of the troubled areas, you're safe,”he humorously concluded. Thailand embraces“Chinese investments tsunami”to become sourcing hub in ASEAN Thailand's imports of yarn and fiber of 2010 2010年泰国入口纱纤 Country 国家 Value(in million US$)總值(百萬美元)Growth rate 增長率 World 全球 1755.5 50.07% ASEAN (9) 东盟 207.8 55.30% Japan 日本 185.6 56.72% US 美国 268.2 23.33% EU (27) 欧盟 92 38.40% (资料来源:Information and Communication Technology Center with Cooperation of the Customs Department) ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南
Swiss precision - from fiber to finished fabric 瑞士展示从纤维到成品织物的全套技术 by Adrian Wilson At the pre-ITMA 2011 conference held by the SWISSMEM textile machinery branch, Dr Lukas Sigrist, the organization's Secretary General, reported that its 41 active members achieved sales of 1,318 million swiss francs (US$1,582 million) in 2010, up by 50% year-on-year, although 2009 saw companies still ravaged by the economic downturn. More than half of exports went to Asian markets, which exceeded expectations with an impressive growth rate of 70%. This upswing was significantly propelled by the three leading markets: China (+124%), India (+42%) and Turkey (+175%). The rise in new orders during all the year has resulted in a comfortable backlog of work stretching well into 2011. Caption: Dr Lukas Sigrist, Secretary General of Swissmem Textile Machinery Association Dr Lukas Sigrist In addition, in the first quarter of 2011, exports were up again by another 55% year-on-year and reports from the sales front indicate that new orders remain buoyant. “We don't yet know how sustainable today's encouraging development is and what the long term impact of extremely strong Swiss currency will be,”Dr Sigrist said,“but the dominant feeling is of guarded optimism with expectations of stabilization and for an 2011 overall result well above last year's level.” Resource savings Given the current drive towards sustainable manufacturing processes, it is perhaps not surprising that there is a notable trend towards enabling textile manufacturers to make savings in resources – whether energy, water or raw materials – behind many of the new Swiss technology developments. At the spinning stage, for instance, Oerlikon Barmag's latest melt spinning lines for fully drawn yarn (FDY) can be used to optimize production processes and significantly reduce waste and energy consumption. Fully drawn yarns are extremely strong and are used, for example, as geotextiles for road construction or erosion control. The company has no doubt that the future of textiles belongs to synthetic fibres.“In contrast to natural fibers made from cotton which have to compete with the food sector for cultivation, synthetic fibres are available on an almost unrestricted basis, with highly specific characteristics,”says Stefan Kross, Head of Oerlikon Barmag.“They are significantly cheaper and offer a wide range of opportunities for the development of functional textiles with highly specific characteristics.” The new Oerlikon spinning line is the first to apply the benefits of the WINGS (Winding Integrated Godet Solution) concept. With this system, the amount of energy consumed in heating up the continuous fibres has been reduced by around 30%, the process steps have been reduced and the machine can now be run by a single operator. Minimizing synthetics processing Seconding the superiority of synthetics over cotton was Ernesto Maurer, CEO of SSM. As the inventor of the electronic yarn traverse system, SSM will show five new machines for yarn dyeing, rewinding, air texturing, draw winding and singeing in Barcelona, and Mr Maurer said that in 2011, the drivers in new machinery development are simple. “It's about less parts, less wear, less complication and less energy,”he said.“In fifteen to twenty years cotton will have the same position as silk does today, so making the processing of synthetics as ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南
Product Debuts 首度亮相产品 efficient as possible is paramount. Energy is obviously a very big issue and heating takes a tremendous amount. Minimising these processes is the key to success.” Sustainable dyeing and finishing It is nevertheless in the dyeing and finishing stages that most resource usage can be minimized, and water and energy savings are the keys, for example, to Xorella's latest range of EnviroTec steaming and conditioning solutions. Conditioning and steaming machines of all makes commonly use vacuum pumps based on the old-fashioned water ring technology to evacuate air and steam from their vessels, explained Xorella's Head of Sales Patrick Zuppiger. The various vacuum cycles which have to be conducted make the use of water for cooling and sealing them an important cost factor. “Despite the fact that in certain regions water availability and cost is not yet a problem, customers are becoming aware of the importance of making savings,”Mr Zuppiger said.“Xorella has developed the XO-EcoPac with this goal in mind. The water-free vacuum system is based on a high tech, low consumption dry vacuum pump, demanding less than half the installed power of conventional water ring pumps.” Viscose future In presenting Benninger's technologies Jürgen Ströhle, the company's Chief Technology Officer, spoke of the so-called‘cellulosic gap’ which is predicted to arise by 2030. “As cotton prices continue to rise, we believe there will be a new situation in which viscose will be a rapidly growing market and this is a situation we are now addressing with our latest technology developments.” Cotton as a natural fiber requires a huge amount of arable land and irrigation water, he added. “State-of-the-art viscose fiber manufacturing plants allow the almost carbon neutral production of fibers. Pulp is derived from trees which embed CO2 and water consumption is only a fiftieth of that used in cotton farming. At ITMA we will introduce a new mercerizing concept which is suitable for mercerizing cotton, but also causiticizing viscose fibers, for both woven as well as knitted fabrics. Mercerized or causticized textiles require less chemicals and less dyestuff during the textile processing chain and our wet on wet mercerizing concept does not require a resource-intensive intermediated drying stage. As a consequence carbon emissions can be reduced by 40%.” Other Swiss new technology at ITMA Rieter's VARIOline At the forthcoming ITMA, Rieter will be presenting a range of new products. The new VARIOline blowroom line is for gentle fiber preparation, even at high production speeds and with a high level of contamination of the raw material. The blowroom line from Rieter scores with a variable concept. The cleaning process takes place in several stages that are adapted to the raw material. Smallest fiber tufts and the cleaning map VarioSet, adjustable at the touch of a button, are the key to efficient and gentle cleaning. The company will also present its new C70 high-performance card with increased performance and production quality compared to the predecessor model. This compactor, already installed and running with a leading customer of Santex's, delivers at high speeds: up to double than those achievable with the felt technology, while maintaining the same residual shrinkage, lustre finish and excellent touch of the knits. Its“Cantilever Feeding”device brings the fabrics to the compacting unit, allowing further fine-tuning of the desired shrinkage. Stäubli's new S3060/S3000 electronic rotary dobby Stäubli will introduce its the newly developed rotary dobby family S3060/S3260. Based on the success of the rotary dobby invented by Stäubli many decades ago, the new dobby comes with a new locking system – the heart of every dobby. Swiss precision – from fiber to finished fabric 新型Oerlikon纺丝路线首次利用WINGS(Winding Integrated Godet Solution的首字母缩写,卷绕整合导丝盘解决方案)概念。 ITMA 2011 Show Guide 参观指南

Product Debuts 首度亮相产品 French machinery makers to underscore energy savings 法国技术突出节能和生态可持续性 by Staff Reporters At the pre-ITMA press conference held by the French Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (UCMTF) in Frankfurt, Germany, various French textile machinery makers gave a preview of what to be showcased at the forthcoming ITMA exhibition. According to the President of UCMTF, Bruno Ameline, for the textile machinery industry, the economic crisis is clearly over and there has been a significant turnaround. “All together, the French textile machinery industry has enjoyed since mid-2010 an increasingly positive trend and is back to activity levels in the range of pre-crisis levels. Most of the French textile machinery manufacturers have a clear route up to the end of 2011, and some for the early months of 2012. In this context, we anticipate a successful ITMA 2011 but some investors may slow their investment decisions before ITMA awaiting the innovations to be unveiled in Barcelona,”noted Mr Ameline. Caption: Bruno Ameline, President of UCMTF Bruno Ameline When it comes to the technology that French textile machinery manufacturers will present at ITMA, Mr Ameline underscored that they are “high tech, energy-saving machinery for high quality markets”. He stressed“In France, we do not have big diversified groups but state-of-the-art, very active and specialized SME's leaders in their sectors of application. They are doing very well and look to the future with great expectations.” He emphasized the pressing need to participate in the fight for sustainable development and particularly for saving energy in the production processes. “It is certainly the responsibility of our members to fine tune the individual machines and optimize the energy consumption of a whole production line. They have already got fascinating results as in many real world examples, the energy savings already achieved are in the 30-40% range but every year they must get better results and reduce the energy consumption per unit of textile output. A dynamic metropolis in Europe – Barcelona by Abby Tu Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain, is one of Europe's most dynamic metropolises. As one of the world's leading cultural hubs visited by millions every year, Barcelona never fails to deliver a delightful, exotic and sometimes wild traveling experiences to visitors expecting a great journey. For those who take interest in art and architecture, Barcelona is definitely a treasure chest worthy of more than just a glance. Barcelona is the only city in the world that boasts nine World Heritage Sites. The city itself serves as a giant museum created by Antoni Gandi: at present, seven buildings designed by the talented architect are recognized by UNESCO, including Sagrada Família, the Casa Mila and Casa Batlló. If you come here to relax, going for a stroll or taking a bike tour around one of the beaches (called Playa in Spanish) in Barcelona will be a great way to get away from the city life. You will find that beaches in Barcelona are well maintained and equipped with public showers, toilets and drinking fountains. One quintessential element of the city is its passion for football. For football fans, particularly the supporters of Barça, it is a must to pay a visit to the home stadium of FC Barcelona, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and go inside the heart of Spanish football culture. Barcelona's five attractions La Sagrada Família La Sagrada Família, commonly known as Sagrada Família, is definitely the most popular tourist attraction in Barcelona and a must-see. Antoni Gaudí,one of the outstanding figures of Catalan architecture, was the director of the project and he devoted his whole life working on the project until his death in 1926. Since then, different architects have continued the work based on his original idea. The church is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At present the church has two facades dedicated to the Birth of Jesus and the Passion of Christ. When it is completed, however, it will have one more facade referring to the Glory of Jesus resurrected. The building is in the centre of Barcelona, and it is also a symbolic landmark of the city. Magic Fountain The magic fountain, which had its first performance on May 19, 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition, is one of the most famous spots in Barcelona with an estimated 2.5 million visitors annually. This is a spectacular fountain which is very popular because of its water arrangements, music and lighting. 2,600 liters of water are pumped through this great fountain per second in three concentric pools which have a water recirculation system. La Rambla La Rambla, a street in central Barcelona, is not a spectacular sight, but a must-go street to stroll down where you can indulge yourself into Spanish culture and visit a number of local stores. La Rambla is a 1.2 kilometres street. It is said that nearly everyone who visits Barcelona walks along it. Attractions along the Rambla including live performances, human ITMA 2011 Show Guide
Getting Around 巴塞罗那旅游指南 statue art, artists that will draw your portrait or caricature, as well as established attractions. As you walk along, you'll see landmark buildings, such as the greatest theatre of Barcelona's opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Virreina and the spectacular Boqueria Market. The Park Güell Park is Güell one of the world's most intriguing parks. The pavilions and main staircase designed by Antoni Gaudí look like they belong in fairy tale. This may be the most unique of the many works which Eusebi Güell,a well known Catalan industrialist, entrusted to the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. In 1984, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Güell Park is skillfully designed and composed to bring the peace and calm that one would expect from a park. The buildings flanking the entrance, though very original and remarkable with fantastically shaped roofs with unusual pinnacles, fit in well with the use of the park as pleasure gardens and seem relatively inconspicuous in the landscape when one considers the flamboyance of other buildings designed by Gaudí. The park can be reached by underground or bus but due to its location, visitors are advised to schedule at least half day for the trip. If you're visiting the park by metro be prepared for at least a 20 minutes walk. FC Barcelona Museum The FC Barcelona Museum at Camp Nou Stadium is the official museum of one of the greatest football clubs in the world. The museum is a very popular tourist attraction and features a magnificent collection of photos, documents and trophies from the club's amazing history and legendary players. In addition, the museum houses one of the best private collections on the subject of football, and the specialised document centre allows visitors to access any imaginable kind of club information. The Museum experieneced a long restructuring and reopened to the public in 2010. Visitors will find a modernised museum with an interactive mural, great audio visual displays, new displays and an extensive collection of memorabilia in order to help learn and enjoy the incredible history of the club. The museum occupies 3,500 square meters and attracts 1.2 million visitors a year, ranking it second to the Museu Picasso, which attracts 1.3 million visitors, as the most visited museum in the city of Barcelona. What's on this September Barcelona La Merce Festival Every year at end of September, Barcelona holds its largest street party – the Barcelona La Merce Festival. La Mercé 2011 will take place from September 22 until September 25. This event is one of the important highlights of the Merce festival and will be held in Placa de Jaume. You must look out for is the human tower competition. This human tower often reaches around eight levels. Highlights: Correfoc - Fire Run Location: Porta Cambo, Avenida Francesc Cambo, Plaza de Antoni Maura, Via Laietana, Plaza de Antoni Lopez and Consolat de Mar Castellers - Human Towers Location: Placa de Sant Jaume Transportation In Barcelona, the best way to get around is by metro. Barcelona's metro system is run by two companies namely TMB and FGC. L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5 and L11 are operated by TMB. The rest 3 commuter lines, numbered L6, L7 and L8, are operated by FGC. In Barcelona, there is also an extensive bus network, which covers areas that are remotely linked by the metro. There are also night buses available on certain routes. Barcelona's ITMA 2011 Show Guide
Getting Around 巴塞罗那旅游指南 bus network operates an integrated fare system enabling passengers to obtain a free transfer from one means of transport to another within a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Travel Pass and Card For Visitors who intend to stay for more than one day and plan to travel by public transport, the best option is to buy the T10 ticket. A T10 will give you 10 journeys on the metro, FGC buses, tram and RENFE all Zone 1 areas. The main city centre areas are all in Zone 1. Barcelona Card is also a option highly recommended. It not only give you discount at major tourist attractions, museums, shops and restaurants but also allows tourists free travel on city public transport including metro and city buses of TMB and FGC city and suburban train network, trams, train to Barcelona's airport and Renfe trains zone 1. Bus Tour For first time visitors, joining a sightseeing bus tour (Barcelona Bus Turistic) is a great way to explore the city. There are 3 lines red, blue and green that operates on different routes and links the city's most popular tourist attractions together. You can buy a ticket on line , or at Plaça Catalunya station, Sants Railway Station, Airport Terminal station and station Mirador de Colon, or just pay on the bus. Spanish culture Widely known for Flamenco dancing and bullfighting, Spain (Espana), the second largest country in the European Union, is one the most visited tourist destinations. Whether you have been to the country or not, visitors probably have already had some knowledge about Spain and Spaniard. You probably know that the capital of Spain is Madrid instead of Barcelona and the most popular sport is football not tennis (although Rafael Nadal is loved as a national hero). But do you really know enough about Spain to distinguish the true statements from the false ones below? - The best time to visit Spain is from March to May, because most festivals take place in spring - Spain is a non-immigration country. Only 2% of its population are immigrants - The Spanish economy relies largely on industry activities and the industry sector is the biggest contributor to its GDP growth - Bull-running, the most famous of Spanish festivals, is held in Barcelona every year. - Business hours in Spain are from 9 am to 6 pm and most stores are closed on Sundays In fact, all of these statements are actually false. As a land of fiestas, all sorts of festivals are held through the year. But for foreigners, the best time to come is during the summer months because a great number of festive events take place in the summer time, between June and September. Spain is country that welcomes immigrants. It is currently has the highest immigration rates within the EU. It is estimated that around 10% of its residents are foreign born. When it comes to economy, services sectors is the biggest GDP driver and tourism industry contribute significantly to its economic growth. Bull-running festival is held in Pamplona in July every year not in Barcelona. If you want experience the excitement, you got to come to the right place at the right time. Spaniard love night activities and often stay up late. Business in Spain usually start sfrom 9am to 8 pm. This is because people here often take a long break in the afternoon, normally 2-3 hours. Most business shut down at this time and re-open around 4pm. Department stores open full day. Another interesting fact worthy noting is that although Spain is not the richest in the EU. But life expectancy in Spain is one of the highest in the world (approximately 81 years). You will certainly be surprised to find that Life expectancy for Spanish women is averaged at 84.65 years, also one of the highest in the European Union. Spanish people's passion for life, sports and easy-going lifestyle all contributed to their longevity. Speaking the language Learning some basic Spanish can make your journey more interesting and fruitful. An easy“Hola!”and“Gracias”will help you make friends with some locals, which will probably save you the trouble from learning more. But if you are a frequent visitor or travelling around often, Spanish will be the right language to pick up because Spanish (Español) is in fact the third most spoken language after Chinese and English.
